Key Stage 2

Welcome to Key Stage 2. At Deanshanger Primary School KS2 consists of two classes in year 3, 4, 5 and 6.  In common with all other local-authority maintained schools, we follow the National Curriculum building on the strong learning base in foundation stage. More information on the statutory curriculum can be found here.

Alternatively, you are welcome to make contact with the school and arrange a visit.

We have long-term curriculum plans which covers all subject areas and this plan is divided into shorter units of around 6 weeks in which the teachers organise a balance of activities for their year group. As well as teaching subjects separately, they are often combined within a single activity in order to provide a more realistic context for learning - such as linking the use of a computer spreadsheet to a maths investigation, or exploring ideas arising from an R.E. lesson through art and music. Every effort is made to match the learning activities to the abilities and interests of the pupils.

The school day for all children, including key stage 2, starts at 8.50am and finishes as 3.15pm. Children are dropped off separately to foundation stage and KS1 children, at the large wooden gate to the right of the main entrance. There is a 20 minute break in the morning and an hour lunch break.

Across the school, pupil attainment and progress is regularly assessed and tracked to support individualised support. At the end of KS2 (year 6), children are assessed is maths and English through SATs. The core subjects are taught alongside rich and creative learning opportunities in science, RE, French, music, art and design technology (DT), PE, PSHCE - Personal Social Health and Citizenship Education, RE and computing.
