On Monday 3rd February, the two year 6 classes had a special African mask making and dance day. They used acrylic paint to create a dotty, symmetrical pattern on the wooden masks provided. After they had dried, they did a dance warm up, followed by learning a traditional African dance using the masks to authentic music. Later in the afternoon, parents/carers were invited to come in and enjoy the final performance. It was performed in class groups first and then as a year group. Our parents enjoyed the dance and we all really enjoyed the day as it was so different.

The Year 2 children (and staff and parent helpers) had a very enjoyable and worthwhile trip to Milton Keynes Museum on Monday 3rd February to support their learning on 'People of the Past'. Their favourite parts of the trip included the transport hall, the old fashioned games and the piano that played all on its own! They are now building upon this learning in class.
On Tuesday 28th January, four of our students went off to post our letters to Australia for DPS.
It is important that our children are aware of school local and world events and we have focused on the tragic events in Australia as part of whole school assemblies and class work. The children have been really committed to supporting, albeit in a relatively small way, by choosing an audience for a letter, and then writing their thoughts unaided. The final letters were displayed and sent to fire fighters, WWF, Red Cross Australia, Schools, Greta Thunberg and Sir David Attenborough.
The show consisted of signing and some very imaginative poems read by the children.
To begin with, we had some lovely singing from all four classes in turn. They all really tried to project their voices and you could see they had practised to make it a brilliant event for their adults/carers. The poem that described what it was like to wrap a Christmas present was extremely funny and very well delivered by year 3. Year 4 also pulled no punches, they sang with passion and it was a great occasion to witness.
Well done Y3 & y4...an event to remember!
It was an amazing run for this production in 2019. The performance sizzled from start to finish.
With 4 renditions of this very popular nativity show, we think our children at DPS did themselves proud this Christmas. Throughout the performance there were memorable contributions from both year groups and the production and costumes were on point.
Special mention to the three judges that remembered lots of lines and delivered the comedy as if they were pros. When leaving the school hall, I actually heard a parent say ' I would have paid to see that', which just shows how highly rated the show was by the adults watching.........
WOW! We couldn't be prouder or more grateful to our hardworking PTA, staff and the whole community for our great Christmas fete after school today @ Deanshanger Primary School
It was extremely busy and raised over £2000!! Thank you, Santa for joining us. #PTA #community #fundraising
The dream is alive @ Deanshanager Primary School
On the Friday before half term, we did an earlier parade, which was a change from the normal schedule. The children were excited and happy to show off their costumes. We have added pictures to the gallery where there were lots of smiley, happy faces. Please go in and half a peek if you couldn't stay and take your own pictures.
Future job day is an opportunity for the children to explore and dream!
