Dear Parents/Carers,
The children have come back into school with a fabulous attitude to their learning and are keen to progress!
Over the next few weeks Year 2 will be finishing off their topic on Super Humans and starting their new topic on Buildings. In Super Humans we will be using the senses safely to make observations and finding out about the similarities and differences between humans and other creatures.
In Buildings, we will be learning all about the different structures we see in towns and cities around the world. We will explore our locality to look at old and new buildings and use this as inspiration for Art. As geographers, we will be learning about how houses and structures differ from country to country and the purposes they serve. As engineers, we will be exploring the science behind the construction of structures through making models and testing materials. What is your home like? How is it similar and different to other homes around the world?
Reading is vital and we encourage you to read with your child daily. Please record all of your child’s reading in their Home/School Diary. The children will continue to access Accelerated reading quizzes both at school and at home. This can be found at https://global-zone61.renaissance-go.com › studentportal
The children will visit the school library each week and may choose a book to take home to read. Please send library books to school on a Monday for changing.
Indoor PE is on Thursday and outdoor PE is on Friday. Indoor PE will be gymnastics and Coordination and balance. Outdoor PE will be mixed sports.
The children will need:
-
White or red T-shirt
-
Black shorts or jogging bottoms
-
Black hoody or tracksuit jacket
-
Trainers suitable for outdoor use in cold weather
(Slogans or football club affiliations are not permitted)
-
Earrings should not be worn on PE days or they should be removed or taped by the child before the lesson. Long hair should be tied back.
Forest School learning will continue to take place on a Tuesday afternoon, each week alternating between classes. We kindly ask that you send your child to school with their named Forest School kits (water proofs) and wellington boots this week in readiness. The conditions are likely to be wet, cold and muddy this term so please ensure they have the appropriate clothing for this activity.
If you have any comments or questions about your child’s learning, please get in touch.
Kind regards,
Mrs S Burdett and Miss Stanley
