We hope that you have had an enjoyable half term. We have lots of fun activities coming up this term.

Year 4 multiplication check.

  • This week the children will be taking the multiplication check. Please keep practicing them at home as multiplication knowledge will help your child with their learning in year 5.
  •

- The results of this will be shared on their end of year report.

Things you need to know about this term:

· Home/school diaries need to be in school every day in order to record reading. Please remember to record all of their reading.

· Please ensure children have clothing suitable for the weather conditions of this time of year. Sun cream, sun hat might be needed as well as coats.

· Monday the children will take part in indoor PE and Wednesday they will take part in outdoor PE. Please ensure the children come into school wearing PE kit.

· Forest school is alternate Wednesdays with Baryonyx class starting their forest school session this week. Please ensure your child has an appropriate forest school kit.

Topics

This term we are studying ‘different places, similar lives’. During this topic, we will be comparing life in the UK to life in Finland and other countries. In DT, we will be creating an object that can transport food and we will be preparing for our Fruity Friday.

Homework

Just to remind you we set homework on Fridays and expect it to be returned on Wednesdays. If you are struggling with the work set, please let us know and we will help your child.

Reading

We are encouraging the children to read for enjoyment and pleasure and expect them to read at least five times a week. This reading should be recorded in their Home/School diary with the title and pages read. Please encourage your child to participate in the reading challenge. There is also a Reading morning each Monday at 8:45.

Writing

We have been using a writing journal in class. This has been very popular so we would like to encourage you to try to use this at home with the focus being on presentation and handwriting. We have used a ruled page book and the children think of their own ideas to write about or we give them an entertaining sentence starter to begin their writing. If you would like to know more about this please contact the class teacher.

Independence

Year 4 is an important year in terms of establishing good organisational skills that will support future independence in learning. It’s important that children take responsibility for their own ‘Home/School Diary’, belongings and homework, but that they are positively encouraged at home and school.

We look forward to another positive term of learning and fun. If you have any concerns, please come and share them with us. Our email addresses are located in the front of the ‘Home/School Diaries’ and this is a useful way of communicating with us.

Kind regards

Year 4 Team
