Pupil Premium
The Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the Government to support disadvantaged children and help close the attainment gap between them and their peers. Introduced in 2011, this funding is based on research showing that children from lower-income families often face challenges that can impact their education, including:
- Limited access to learning resources
- Poor language and communication skills
- Less family support with schoolwork
- Reduced self-esteem and confidence
- Attendance and punctuality issues
The Pupil Premium is designed to directly benefit eligible pupils, ensuring they have the same opportunities to succeed as others.
Is Your Child Eligible?
Your child may qualify for Pupil Premium funding if they fall into one of the following categories:
- Free School Meals (FSM): Children who have been eligible for free school meals at any point in the past six years. Schools receive £1,300 per child.
- Looked After Children (LAC): Children who have been in the care of a local authority for more than one day. These children receive a £1,900 premium.
How is The Funding Used?
Schools have flexibility to decide how best to use Pupil Premium funding to support eligible pupils. Some common ways this funding is used include:
- Targeted academic support, such as one-to-one or small group tuition.
- Additional teaching assistance to provide extra support in classrooms.
- School breakfast clubs to improve attendance and concentration.
- Enrichment activities, such as music lessons or educational trips.
- Resources to enhance learning, such as laptops, books and learning apps.
- Extra tuition for high-achieving pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Measuring Impact
While we are committed to sharing how we invest our Pupil Premium funding, measuring its impact can be challenging due to the small number of eligible pupils. Instead of relying solely on statistics, we focus on the individual progress and achievements of each child.
