Celebrating the Coronation of King Charles III @DPS
The coronation of King Charles III is a significant moment in history. Our celebrations in school on Friday are set to commemorate the event and create long-lasting memories.
Whilst most of the day will be for the children and staff, you are warmly invited to join us at the end of the day (from 2.50pm).
We hope that you will be able to join us.
Feel free to wear red, white and blue with crowns and tiaras too!
Timings of the school day are normal i.e., 8.45am—3.25pm
All children are encouraged to wear red, white or blue or similar e.g., England sports tops, special summer outfits, patriotic outfits...
Weather permitting, Fresh Start lunches and packed lunches will be enjoyed outside on the school field.
Across the school, there will be special activities happening in the lead up to our memorable day, on Friday 5th May and potentially the following week too.
In Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, the children will be playing croquet, working on a royal themed art project, making biscuits and invitations, naming places connected to the ceremony, making crowns and enjoying afternoon tea.
In Years 2 and 3, the children will be making crowns, practising country dancing, baking, writing letters to the King and writing a recipe for what makes a good king.
In Year 4,5 and 6, the children will be making crowns, researching British values and those linked with the coronation, finding out about the history of the crown jewels. designing a coin, looking at pledges and timelines and the commonwealth.
Our fingers will be firmly crossed that the weather is beautiful on Friday, particularly for the final part of the day when you are warmly invited to join us. We are hoping that this final event will take place outside the front of the school.
(Please note that we would like to use the area outside the front of the Year 2 building and will therefore not be allowing car parking in this area on Friday until after 3.30pm)
We will start with the national anthem and invite you to join us.
Year 2 and 3 will entertain us with their country dancing.
There will be a reenactment of the coronation.
We will sing a song that we have all been practising. If you want to have a sing at home, here's the link - To the Sound of Trumpets.
There will be a parade of our crowns with another special coronation song (Our King) - it will definitely get stuck in your heads!
The children will all go back inside the school at the end of the day, ready for dismissal at 3.25pm in the regular way.
One of the projects that King Charles III is keen to promote is wildflower meadows, the environment, and developing outdoor spaces. You may have read in the press about wildflower seeds for every primary school class in honour of the Coronation.
During the term, we will continue to add to our outside environment; we have a special willow tree ready to plant shortly to remember staff that have passed but have certainly not been forgotten. It seems fitting to plant this as part of the King's special projects.
