I am thoroughly looking forward to welcoming back an extra 260 children on Monday. Whilst I am extremely proud of the learning that has been going on in school and at home, it will be great to take another positive step nearer to school life before March 2020. Please refer to the risk assessment information shared last week so that we are able to continue putting wellbeing and safety at the forefront of everything that we do.

All children deserve a special 'shout out' for their resilience, adaptability, hard work... and the same is true for you all as parents and carers.

The entire staff team have gone to extraordinary lengths to keep the learning going and to support the children in bespoke ways - they are an amazing team!

As you know, we welcomed a virtual Ofsted team into the school on Tuesday and were pleased that they recognised the collective efforts of the whole school community at this time. Thank you for providing feedback on ParentView to support the process. The Ofsted report will be shared in due course.

Finally, for now, please look out for a survey coming soon. We'd like to know what parts of the lockdown time have been most effective and which parts you think we should keep going eg, parent meetings and curriculum information meetings on Zoom.

There has been lots of fun, excitement and sharing stories this week during Book Week. Mrs Atkinson shared a story with EYFS, Year One and Two children on Tuesday. Mr Larcombe led a very exciting assembly, sharing one of his stories with us and talked to us about being an author and Mrs Rice set an exciting book quiz. Other year groups have been participating in other book-related activities. For example, attending a David Walliams assembly and writing our own stories and cartoons.

The World Book Day £1 vouchers will be handed out on Monday when children are expected to return to school. If you have any photographs of your child/ren sharing a story, please share them with us via our Twitter page. # ShareAStory. #WorldBookDay.

A group of children shared their fantastic reading skills on Tuesday with our visitors from OFSTED. They were very impressed with them and were very keen that we expressed their thanks. These children were Charlie Garard (Year Two), Cooper Fellowes (Year Three), Rosie Beales (Year Five) and Harriet Tanner(Year 6).

Amazingly, as a school team we have read a staggering 80,490,585 words. This is incredible!

We also celebrate James Vallas becoming a 'Word Millionaire' this week. Once school begins next week for all, we are hoping to restart our 'Book Club'.

Within the school, all year groups form a bubble and children from different bubbles do not mix. Following the government's current guidance, the same should be the same outside school (with the exception of siblings of course).

In order to protect the whole school community and minimise risk, we really need your support with this. We are really committed to playing our role in reducing the infection rate so that we can all get life back to that before the pandemic.

Can we please ask that all children bring (and keep) their welly boots in school rather than bringing them in for their Forest School day only, please?

We will be regularly using the field for break and lunch sessions and it can get very muddy. Thank you.

Updates from our Chair of Governors

Well, I hope everyone is looking forward to returning to school on Monday. As Chair of Governors, I wanted to thank staff--teaching and non-teaching, pupils, Fresh Start, and not forgetting parents and carers for all the hard work, energy, enthusiasm and commitment throughout this very challenging period.

I have recently met with the new SENCO to discuss present and future plans, and continue to keep in touch with the Head to be aware of any issues and developments in school.

Governors have met with year groups and shared the amazing work done both in school and at home and it makes us privileged to represent the school.

We have kept in touch with the school through Zoom meetings, assemblies and I want to say thank you to them for their commitment and support throughout this period and especially on Tuesday afternoon when we met with the Ofsted inspector.

Please can you return the laptops and chargers borrowed (during the lock down time) to the school office from Monday? With computing lessons returning to normal, we will need these back in school as soon as possible.
